A memorable night at the St Dunstan’s installation (Or Billy hits a 6)

Many brethren came far and wide to witness the installation of resident Scotsman William Fraser into the chair of King Solomon at St Dunstan’s in Glastonbury. So many in fact, that more chairs had to be made available to accommodate – a testament to the depth of love and respect shown to Billy, as he is popularly known as.

Visiting brethren were not just from Somerset, but of other provinces including South East London where Billy’s Mother lodge is, and also his native land of Scotland. One brother in particular wore his Scottish regalia and during salutations showed us how the Scots do it differently – a great sight to see!

There was a break in the ceremony whereby everyone was treated to food and drinks which was kindly organised by DC Tom Nutt and supported by the lodge members – a great team effort.

The ceremony was honoured by the presence of APGM Barrie Palmer, who was pleased to present Billy with his Solomon Academy diploma.

Billy did a fantastic job investing his new officers and in a momentary deviation from custom, showed everyone a very special Taylor’s workings from his London lodge when investing his Tyler, which commanded everyone’s attention – an unforgettable moment!

The Festive board was a lively affair, with great speeches and Billy presented a large bouquet of flowers for the wife of the outgoing Secretary Adrian Huggett for his sincere and unrelenting hard work as secretary for the last 16 years! Billy’s chosen charity is the local Strawberry Club that cares for sick children – and Billy was off to a great start with the brethren donating generously to the raffle, raising an impressive £400.

Amazingly, this is Billy’s sixth time in the chair within his rich masonic career, but his first time as master of St Dunstan’s. With such an experienced, distinguished and dedicated mason at the helm, the lodge is in safe hands. Enjoy your year ahead, William!
