Presentation of a 50-Year Certificate in Freemasonry to W.Bro Michael Adams
RW Bro Raymond Guthrie, The Provincial Grand Master (PGM), stated that it was both a privilege and a pleasure to present a framed certificate commemorating 50 years in Freemasonry to W.Bro Michael Adams, a Brother whose life has been deeply intertwined with the Craft.
Born in Wales, Michael later settled in Shepton Mallet and was initiated into Love and Honour Lodge No. 285 on 18th February 1976 by W.Bro Roger Fussell. His Masonic journey saw him rise to the Chair of King Solomon in 2006, following a period during which his professional commitments took him to the North of England. He also served with distinction as Charity Steward for 20 years.
W.Bro Adams was a founder member of Somerset Tablers Lodge and Lodge Uno Corde, and is also a member of Somerset Masters Lodge and Royal Cyrus Chapter. In Provincial rank, he was promoted to Past Provincial Senior Grand Warden (PPrSGW) by RW.Bro David Medlock in 2021. In 2022, he received the prestigious Golden Ashlar Award on behalf of Love and Honour Lodge No. 285.
In his remarks, the PGM noted, “Michael is 91 years old—what a journey!” He went on to congratulate him on a remarkable Masonic career and commended him particularly for involving his family in Freemasonry, describing it as “a brilliant career.”
During the presentation, W.Bro Adams contributed warmly, adding his own recollections to those shared by the PGM. He expressed his sincere thanks to all present and spoke proudly of his Past Master’s Jewel, which had belonged to his father from Hay-on-Wye. He was delighted to have his son and two grandsons present at the ceremony.
He also made mention of N.D. John Smith and conveyed his best wishes for a speedy recovery to RW.Bro David Medlock. Reflecting on his career, he spoke of the honour he felt in receiving the Golden Ashlar Award at the 2022 AGM and concluded by thanking everyone for attending, stating how much he had enjoyed his 50 years in Freemasonry.
