Somerset visits Somersetshire

The Somerset Provincial team led by the PGM Ray Guthrie, made their annual March Pilgrimage to Mark Masons Hall in London, to conduct a Ceremony for Somersetshire Lodge.

Not only did the Provincial Team visit, but also 8 members of the Adair “Light Blues” Club and several members of the St Ceclia Choir, making 75 in all attending.

The team were supposed to be carrying out an Initiation but sadly the candidate had to pull out at the last minute, due to health reasons (we all wish him a speedy recovery) so after several frantic phone calls between Garry Sharp Proviencial GDC, the Lodge Secretary Ian Evans and several members of the team. It was decided to carry out a Demonstration, with the Provincial Learning and Development officer Matt Williams explaining parts of the ceremony.

This proved a great success with everyone enjoying the day, Ray and his team were exemplary in their ritual as we would expect.

The Meal that followed was superb and the fairly unique “Cross Toasting” that is carried out at Somersetshire was again great fun. In fact the team enjoyed themselves so much, three will be applying to join.

L-R clockwise pictures, members of the Adair Club, Evan Hand IPM, Martin Simms the Grand Lodge Visitor, Ian “Bubs” Burbage WM, Tom Beasley from the Adair Club and Garry Sharpe’s Fruit Pastilles that someone took and shared out on the Train home – much to his disappointment as he was on a different train !
