Yatton Freemasons Donation to Sofia Hill’s FES Bike

After meeting Kate Hill and her husband, Peter, at Yatton RFC in April 2025, Yatton Freemasons got together and donated £1050 towards the purchase of a FES Bike

FES bikes are special machines that help people recover by using low-level electrical currents to help their nerves and muscles. They are perfect for people with neurological conditions like spinal cord injuries, MS or strokes, as they help them pedal and get stronger, which is great for their heart and blood flow.

Sofia, Kate and Peter’s daughter, has a rare genetic condition called HHT. Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia, also known as Osler-Weber-Rendu syndrome, is a condition where blood vessels connect in unusual ways.

Sofia spent time in hospital from July 2024 to February 2025. After a life-saving operation, she became paralysed. She has an incomplete spinal cord injury, which means the spinal cord is not completely severed, but is still injured. This means she needs months of recovery and rehabilitation, both in hospital and at home.

Sofia has made huge progress, from only being able to wiggle one toe, and then being able to stand in her “golden frame” with support. She continues to amaze all of her family every day

Sofia’s Dad raised £26,294 on his Just Giving page and ran the 2025 Bristol Half Marathon, which helped buy the FES bike for the neuro-rehab department at Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Last year, Sofia was using a walking frame and a wheelchair. Now, fast forward 10 months to Saturday 28th February at Yatton RFC, Sofia is using crutches and has made a big improvement because of her physiotherapy and the FES bike.

Well done, Sofia! Everyone is so proud of you.
