Charity Dinner At Quantock Lodge In Watchet

Quantock Lodge recently brought the Watchet Brethren, their families, friends, and the wider community together for a warm and well‑supported charity dinner hosted by Worshipful Master John Sully. The evening centred on raising funds for his chosen charity, the League of Friends of the Williton and District Community Hospital – a cause deeply rooted in the life of West Somerset. It also provided the perfect occasion for our Immediate Past Master to present a cheque to the charity WASPs, reflecting the funds generously raised by the Brethren of Quantock Lodge during his year in office.
After everyone had enjoyed their meal, one of the highlights of the night followed: our Immediate Past Master Alan Sandwell, with the full support of the current Worshipful Master, presented a cheque for more than £2,100 to the Williton and Surrounding Area Parkinson’s Support Group (WASPS). This contribution forms part of the remarkable £4,500 raised collectively by the Brethren of Quantock Lodge and Alan throughout his year in the Chair – a testament to their generosity, dedication, and community spirit.

The cheque was gratefully received by Jane Cooper and Linda Bishop, Secretary and Founder of WASPS, who spoke warmly about the impact this donation will have. They shared how the funds will help the group continue providing support, exercise sessions, and companionship to people living with Parkinson’s across West Somerset – an especially meaningful service in a rural area where community‑led support is vital.
The evening as a whole embodied the values Freemasonry is known for: charity, fellowship, and service to others. It also shone a light on the positive role Quantock Lodge continues to play in Watchet and the surrounding area, quietly supporting local causes and strengthening the community it has proudly served for generations.
All the money raised on the night will now be added to the Lodge’s wider charitable efforts throughout the Worshipful Master’s year. At the end of his term in office, the full total raised will be presented to his chosen charity – the League of Friends of the Williton and District Community Hospital – which the Brethren hope will go some way to help this remarkable local charity.
