Queens College Membership Challenge

What a lovely time we had the day we went to…the home of Alan and Lesley!
The weather couldn’t have been better for a BBQ and we received such a warm and
generous welcome. Darren, our newest member and close friend of Alan was clearly
the ‘right hand man’ while his partner assisted Lesley in the kitchen. Alan, clearly an
experienced chef, cooked beef burgers and bangers from his favourite butcher;
these were delicious as were the many salad dishes prepared by the ladies. Several
tubs were filled with ice cubes cooling soft drinks, beer and, of course, wine. We
wanted for nothing!

It was a very happy, relaxed occasion with a few even wearing shorts! An ideal
opportunity to mingle and chat in an informal setting which we rarely have time for at
our formal lodge meetings. Our Ladies meeting up again after many months had
much to catch up on.

And then it was down to business; recruitment. We spoke to one very interested
potential candidate, indeed he will be coming to “experience” the Queen’s Christmas
bash, then hopefully initiated soon after. Also in the pipeline was at least one more
and a joining member.

About 25 of us came and went, some with wives and partners and even children.
Replete, we were reluctant to leave such idyllic surroundings.
Huge thanks to Alan, Lesley, Darren and his partner for all the trouble they went to
giving us the best possible afternoon. Alan’s generosity is legendary. Having eaten
and drunk so much it must be doubtful we shall be invited again next year!
