Somerset Masonic Shooting Club Kicks Off 2025 with a Bang!
The Somerset Masonic Shooting Club (SMSC) has started the year with a flurry of activity, bringing members together for camaraderie, friendly competition, and of course, some excellent shooting. From clay targets to challenging duck shoots, the club has offered a diverse range of events, strengthening bonds and creating lasting memories.
Brunch, Bang, and Birds at Mendip Shooting Ground
Kicking off the year on January 5th, the SMSC hosted a relaxed and enjoyable drop-in brunch and clay shooting day at the popular Mendip Shooting Ground. Our members enjoyed a hearty brunch while catching up and making plans for the year ahead. The clay shooting provided a great opportunity for both seasoned shooters and newcomers to hone their skills and enjoy the thrill of hitting their targets. The friendly atmosphere encouraged participation and fostered a sense of community amongst the members.

A Royal Duck Shoot at Bridwell Park Estate
Following the successful clay day, members were treated to a truly special experience on January 18th – a members-only duck shoot at the stunning Bridwell Park Estate in Cullompton. This exclusive event was made possible thanks to the generous hospitality of David and Kirsty of Southwest Poultry Installations, to whom the club extends its sincere gratitude. The beautiful surroundings of Bridwell Park provided a picturesque backdrop for the shoot, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the day. The challenging duck shoot tested the skills of the participants, while the shared experience created a strong sense of companionship amongst the members.
Inter-Club Competition Heats Up
Rounding out the initial flurry of activity was the rescheduled inter-club shooting competition, which finally took place on February 2nd. Originally planned for December, the delayed competition certainly didn’t disappoint. The friendly rivalry between the members added an exciting edge to the day, with participants showcasing their precision and skill. The competition provided a fantastic opportunity for shooters to test themselves against their peers and celebrate the achievements of fellow brethren.

More Than Just Shooting
While the shooting itself was undoubtedly a highlight, these events were about more than just hitting targets. The SMSC prides itself on fostering a strong sense of community and brotherhood amongst its members. These events provided the perfect setting for building friendships, strengthening Masonic bonds, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. The shared experiences, the laughter, and friendship are what truly make the SMSC a special club to be a part of.
The SMSC looks forward to a year filled with more exciting events, opportunities for skill development, and the continued growth of its vibrant community. Stay tuned for upcoming announcements and get ready to join in the fun!
