Making a difference one meal at a time at King Alfred Lodge

Meet Aishah Ahmed, a young lady who set up a food bank charity back in March 2022. The charity distributes hot meals to local people in Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding area who are struggling with food insecurity.

As well as distributing food from own distribution premises to homeless people every Wednesday,
the charity also has been providing hot food, on a regular weekly basis, to the Homeless, Homeless
Shelters, Family Centres and many other organisations who support the food insecurity initiative.
For those who cannot come to the charity’s distribution site, volunteers from Aishah’s Food Charity
will deliver a hot meal for them to their house for the whole family. They also run an after-school
food club and a holiday hunger scheme.

They play a massive role in supporting the local communities and the charity is mostly self-funded
from Aishah’s family so depends on local donations and small grants to help fund the work.
It is for these reasons that King Alfred selected this charity for our November meeting proceeds and
on Wednesday 18 th of December we presented the cheque for £300 to Aishah and her local
distribution centre. Each meeting this season our Worshipful Master Mike Willis is selecting a local
charity based on suggestions by the brethren to donate to, rather than choosing one charity for the
whole year, this way, we increase our impact on local communities and helps the brethren get
involved with charity work.Even for the short time we were there, many people in desperate circumstances were coming to collect their hot meals, our donation helps keep this operation running. This is one of the reasons we are Masons, to make a difference to other peoples lives.

A truly inspiring young lady and we wish her all the best in the future.
