David Cousins Celebrates 60 years in Masonry
David Cousins received his 60th Anniversary Certificate from The Provincial Grand Master, Ray Gutherie at the Severn Lodge November meeting. The Provincial Grand Master, presented David’s certificate to him along with a narrative of his fascinating history, both in Masonry and his private life.
In 1958 David joined the merchant navy as a cadet with the British and Commonwealth Shipping Company (Union Castle and Clan Line). Over several years, he sailed under the command of Captain Anson (as a Cadet and eventually 3rd Officer).
He was initiated into the Oceanus Lodge (7785) in the Province of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Proposed by Captain Anson and seconded by Captain A.J. Culpin on the 9th of November 1964.
On 14th of November of that same year, David married Pat, who he met a few years earlier whilst away at sea in South Africa. Her father was the shipping agent in Cape Town and invited the young officers back to their home for a party. David and Pat have just celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
In 1970 David joined Dormer Lodge (6708) in the Province of Cheshire through his brother Malcom’s father-in-law, W. Bro Frank Nelson, as he was now working for the Mersey Dock and Harbour Company, Port of Liverpool. In 1973 he resigned from Oceanus Lodge as it became difficult to travel to attend meetings.
In 1980 David moved with Pat and his 3 children to the Southwest to take up a role at Royal Portbury Docks. During this time, he continued to attend Dormer Lodge.
In 2007, After several years of visiting Severn Lodge 4399, he became a Joining Member, proposed by W. Bro Ray Dowbiggin and seconded by W. Bro R.E. Biggs
In 2009 he joined Eldon Chapter (1755) Proposed by W. Bro Larry Buck and seconded by W. Bro Ray Dowbiggin. In 2013 he was installed as Master of Severn Lodge where he served the Lodge proudly, representing the Lodge on many of his visits to other Lodges within the Province.
David has continued to support Severn Lodge, at both Lodge meetings and any, and all social events. Offering support and advise to many of the younger Brethren. The members of Severn Lodge congratulate David on reaching this milestone and thank him for his years supporting the Lodge with such dogged determination. We wish him many more years in Masonry, particularly in Severn Lodge.
