Somerset Freemasons donate£4,000 to the Hub – Yeovil Community Support Charity.
Adults with autism and learning disabilities in South Somerset have received a significant boost thanks to Somerset Freemasons who have donated £4,000 to the Hub – Yeovil Community Support Charity.
The Hub provides day services for more than 70 adults with autism and learning disabilities (trainees), with an age range of 18 to 70+. The Hub creates an environment where trainees can learn, grow, feel supported, make friends, have opportunities and be part of a community. The Hub provides real employment opportunities in their vibrant community cafe and has a community scrap store. It provides a wide range of activities including work experience, skills for life, art therapy, football, boxing, mechanics, digital skills, therapy horse riding, hairdressing, woodworking, dance, music, themed learning, gaming, etc. It also provides invaluable respite for parents and carers.
Ken Comber, CEO of the Hub said: “We are extremely grateful and appreciative of the very generous donation from Somerset Freemasons. This money will be used for the direct benefit of our trainees. It will be used to add even more new experiences and activities. It will mean we can help our trainees to
become as independent as possible and help them reach their full potential. Adults with learning disabilities and autism are a community that is often forgotten and not heard and that is why we are so appreciative of the donation from the Freemasons. Their support will make a huge difference to our trainees.” Graham Puddy from Somerset Freemasons, said: “I am very pleased we have been able to help the Hub – Yeovil with their hugely valuable programme for local people who need this crucial support. Thanks to the Hub, trainees are given opportunities that otherwise would not be available to them. This support gives them a far greater chance of making a better life for themselves.”
