Woodspring Remember The Fallen

Woodspring lodge 8791 held a Past Masters night on Friday 15 November. Back in the chair for the evening was WB Dave Trotter. This was the closest meeting to remembrance  day (11/11) and accordingly a minutes silence was held at the start of the ceremony.

However, Dave had recovered a book from the effects of the late WB Tony Price who had passed to the grand lodge a few years before. This book was a 1921 book ‘  Masonic Roll of Honour’ .  It is a hard back book printed in 1921 and lists the fallen, every freemason, who lost their lives in the great war 1914-1918.

On page 63 it listed Lodge Agriculure 1199 and three brethren from that lodge  who had made the ultimate sacrifice. Henry Robert MILES; Edward OPENSHAW; Frank WHEELDON .

At the end of the minutes silence their names, military rank and masonic rank were read out.

Visiting Woodspring Lodge that night was WB Dave MEGILLEY  from  1199 Lodge Agriculture.  The book was later presented to WB MEGILLEY to be placed in the display cabinet outside the door of the lodge.

Enquires had previously been made by Dave Trotter with the Masonic library at Grand Lodge in London, and they already had two copies of this book.  Where WB PRICE collected this book  from will be unknown, but WB tony Price  was a collector and interested in the history of Freemasons, however all were content that it would now find a suitable home.
