King Alfred Setting “The Bar High” in Weston.
On Friday 15 th November saw the brethren of King Alfred Lodge in Weston-super-Mare
have the pleasure of initiating Jason Pole as their newest member.
Before the evening’s festivities, Simon Larkins presented a cheque to his nominated charity, the Harvey Hex Trust, as the charity he selected for his year in the chair during, the total amount raised was £2,592.81, a big well done to all at King Alfred.
Grand Lodge was represented by two Grand Officers, both PAGDC Peter Elmont and Keith
Baker, as well the current Provincial Senior Grand Warden Garry Hawkes, all warmly welcomed
by the brethren and salutations returned.
The evening was a perfect demonstration on why King Alfred is known for ritual,
customs and practice, some new fresh faces took part in the initiation ceremony and
special credit to Jim Gilbody for an excellent word perfect charge, something he hasn’t
done for over 15 years. Also to Harvey Baigent for the working tools, his first
attempt at ritual and was passionately given. Every new officer embraced their new roles
ardently, there was smiles and cheers all round.
The lodge was also blessed with the presence of brethren from Birnbeck Lodge who
presented the traveling trowel and a cohort from Wessex Lodge on a fraternal visit.
The ethos of work hard play hard was evidence with some social meandering at the bar
following a jovial festive board with lots of singing and brotherly love, a few sore heads
were surely present in the morning.
A cracking evening, and a strong statement from King Alfred on what it really means to
be a Mason.
