King Alfred Install Mike as the new Master
On Friday 11th October saw the brethren of King Alfred Lodge in Weston-super-Mare have the pleasure of installing Mike Willis as their Worshipful Master for the coming year. Mike has been in the chair once before during his masonic career and has gladly accepted the honour once more.
The Provincial Grand Master was represented by Provincial Senior Grand Warden Garry Hawkes and was accompanied by Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies Andrew McKay who was his DC for the evening, who both helped keep the spirits of the brethren in high order as is usual custom at King Alfred.
During the installation the lodge mentor administered the Past Master’s breast jewel to the new IPM Simon Larkins in a wonderful and deeply emotive presentation that resonated with all the brethren where he thanked and congratulated him on such a successful year as Master of the Lodge. Simon brought with him his very own unique style as Master and always gave the brethren something to smile about. On behalf of all the brethren, thank you Simon.
Following the installation to the chair, the new Master presented his offices for the presiding year, this including the appointment of all junior brethren who currently do not hold office to the position of Stewards complete with their very own collars. This was an excellent descision and really empowers the brethren with a sense of belonging. It is one of the core values of King Alfed, to encourage involvement within the rituals and ceremonies of all brethren regardless of rank or oppulence with the support from the more “expert workman”.
The festive board was especially cheeful as with toasts a plenty and an excellent rendition of the Master’s Song beautifully sung by W.Bro Peter Rice in which all the brethen were on their feet for towards the end, bellowing out the final few lines of this already epic song. W.Bro Mike Willis with a dash of “Dutch Courage” even felt brave enough to honour this by standing atop his chair supported by his two Wardens.
In summary, brilliant night all round and a perfect way to start the next season at King Alfred Lodge.
