60 not out for Mike Baker!

It was with great pleasure that Members of Rural Philanthropic Lodge, accompanied Richard Winter, to present a 60 year long service award to Mike Baker.

Mike will be 91 in March and cannot always make it to the meetings, due to being a little unsteady on is feet, it was decided that a presentation would be made at his home.

Mike is a retired bank manager and was a great rugby player in his day, making over 200 first team appearances for Gloucester, before moving south and playing for Weston super Mare.

John Chinn, Richard Winter, Mike and Wynne Jones.

Wynne Jones, a neighbour of MIke for some 20 years, told a story of how Mikes Garden was always kept beautifully, but had an issue with Moles, so Wynne used to put little piles of soil on the front garden, to emulate mole hills as a prank! There was also a story about how they kept Badgers and Foxes away, but that’s for another time!

Congratulations Mike from all of us at Rural Philanthropic and the Province of Somerset!
