Somerset Farmers Lodge’s David Preece Children’s Air Ambulance Fundrazor

Some months ago, whilst watching the local evening news, I saw a featured a story about a very special children’s air ambulance service, specifically formed to help severely sick or injured babies and children.

We are all undoubtedly aware of the fantastic life-saving work that the Devon, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance currently performs, all without direct Government or NHS funding. Many of us Brethren in Somerset have already contributed to their cause and continue to do so, either privately or through various Masonic means of donation.

‘’Nothing new about an Air Ambulance’’, I hear you say, but what really caught my attention about this one was that the helicopter contains a functional operating theatre, staffed by a team of four medics, in which sick and injured infants can undergo vital operative interventions, whilst airborne and en route to a specified hospital. AMAZING!!!!!

I made the decision to raise some money to help fund their excellent cause.

The target total that I set myself was £2021.

My choice of fundraiser was to have a sponsored hair and beard shave-off.

Having given my hair and beard some growing time, the deed was to be done at Cornhill, in Bridgwater town centre, at 3 PM on Saturday 3rd July. The task of scything through the undergrowth was entrusted to the renowned retired Bridgwater coiffurist, Ken Baker.  This was to be Ken’s first foray with scissors and razor for eighteen months. What could possibly go wrong?!?!

These photos show that he hasn’t lost his touch! So-much-so in fact, that Ken has emerged from his retirement and reinvented himself as a mobile hairdresser, for the time being at least!

To those of you who have already supported me to help this fine charity, you have my sincere and lasting thanks.

Any of you reading this who would like to add your support, please either visit my Just Giving page or send a cheque payable to ‘South West Children’s Air Ambulance Service’ to me, David Preece, 2 Somerville Way, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 5SA.

Please help if you can.
