Stephen Rows For Frome Charity Active And In Touch
On Tuesday 1st June, W.Bro Stephen Barker completed a 100 day 500km rowing challenge and, with the help from Frome Masons, raised £3275 for local charity Active And In Touch.
Active And In Touch provides support for those who have become isolated and lonely through the circumstances that life has thrown at them, maybe caring for a partner for years, moving to a new area, or just not feeling confident to try new things alone.
The support of the Brethren of Frome Masonic Hall helped him through when he was rowing in late February’s freezing conditions at 5.30am! Over the last year, Stephen has concentrated on drinking less, eating properly and exercising regularly; this has enabled him to reverse his Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis. He is now in remission and has never felt healthier! The team at Frome’s Affinity Gym have supported him all the way through, and have even offered a regular Masonic Gym Session!
The Worshipful Masters John Rawlins of Royal Somerset Lodge No. 973, and Malcolm Elder of Forest of Selwood Lodge No 8912 and all the Brethren of these two Lodges were a huge factor in raising such a large sum for Stephen’s chosen charity Active and in Touch.
On the final day, a number of Frome’s Brethren were there to encourage him on the last leg of his challenge and, with their encouragement, Stephen managed to achieve his personal best of 18:32 for the last 5km! Well done Stephen!!!!
