Columbanus Lodge rev-up for another year

Columbanus Lodge was consecrated in May 2017 as a special interest Lodge for those with a passion for all things motorcycling.

Columbanus being the patron saint of Motorcycling and Motorcyclists; the two wardens’ and the master’s gavels are actually made from the pistons of British motorcycles.

The lodge meets in January, May, June, July and September, and their Installation Meeting has recently changed from May to January allowing the members to wear formal attire in the cold month of January, and travel lighter to the other four meetings, when the weather is warmer. This encourages the members to ride their motorbikes to the meetings, which are then usually followed by an organised ride.

At their Installation Meeting in January Kent Baxter returned to the chair as Worshipful Master for a second year, with all the Lodge officers staying in post for a second term, as a consequence of the new installation month being introduced.

The near zero temperatures did not dampen the mood for the meeting at Keynsham Masonic Hall, and a successful and enjoyable time was had by all.

The afternoon was attended by Steve Defries, representing the Provincial Grand Master and the lodge welcomed the Master of Elizabethan Lodge, Malcom Toogood, accompanied by nine Brethren, who delivered the Somerset Travelling Trowel, which will then be taken and presented to Lodge of Honour in February.

An enjoyable festive board was held following the meeting, with excellent food, company and brotherhood, enjoyed by all present.

The Brethren now look forward to the better weather returning, so they can take their motorcycles out from winter hibernation and get back to travelling around the provinces of Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, where the remaining meetings of the year will be held.
