Lodges meeting in Wincanton

Science Lodge meets at The Masonic Hall, Church Street, Wincanton BA9 9AA

Records indicate that a Lodge met at the Bear in Wincanton from 1793 to 1809 and a French Lodge was opened in 1810 for Prisoners of War. A Lodge was moved from Bourton (Dors.) to Wincanton (now the Science Lodge) in 1836 and The Masonic Hall was opened in 1872

Wincanton is unique in the fact that it was twinned in 2002 with a town which can only be found in fiction. As well as Gennes / Les Rosiers in France and Lahnau in Germany, Wincanton is twinned with Ankh-Morpork, a fictional city state near the Circle Sea on Terry Pratchett's Discworld

The Lodge of Science No 437 Wincanton was formed in 1836 and initially met in Bourton, Dorset. The Lodge transferred to Wincanton, Somerset in the late 1800's. The Lodge has had several homes in Wincanton but in 1936 moved into the old silk mill located in Church Street where it remains.

The Lodge meets on the second Thursday of the month from September to May. Our members are drawn from every walk of life and age group. The Lodge of Science has a proud, long history and therefore traditions which we maintain. We are also open and forward looking within the Lodge and outside of it. We welcome enquiries from those interested in joining our Lodge.
